ABOUT GROUP THERAPY FOR GRIEF

Bereavement Groups

Bereavement groups are widely considered one of the most effective ways to cope with the loss of a loved one.

In a good bereavement group, participants should be able to:

  • Share their feelings of grief in a supportive setting.

  • Learn about the grieving process by hearing from others.

  • Recognize normal grief responses.

  • Receive guidance from a trained facilitator.

  • Find ways to encourage healing over time.

  • Feel less isolated, confused, and alone.

  • Make space for both sadness and hope.

My Approach

In my practice, I organize bereavement groups around general grief support, rather than separating people by the type of loss they have experienced.

  • Group members may have different losses, backgrounds, and experiences.

  • Even so, meaningful emotional connections often develop.

  • Those connections can be healing, even when individual losses are different.
