ABOUT GROUP THERAPY FOR GRIEF
Bereavement Groups
Bereavement groups are widely considered one of the most effective ways to cope with the loss of a loved one.
In a good bereavement group, participants should be able to:
Share their feelings of grief in a supportive setting.
Learn about the grieving process by hearing from others.
Recognize normal grief responses.
Receive guidance from a trained facilitator.
Find ways to encourage healing over time.
Feel less isolated, confused, and alone.
Make space for both sadness and hope.
My Approach
In my practice, I organize bereavement groups around general grief support, rather than separating people by the type of loss they have experienced.
Group members may have different losses, backgrounds, and experiences.
Even so, meaningful emotional connections often develop.
Those connections can be healing, even when individual losses are different.
